Abstract:
This paper discusses a full field-of-view solution providing a high-resolution headlighting beam based on a hybrid system. The concept consists of a single 20k pixel Micro-LED complemented with a LED matrix and a foreground module, covering low beam and adaptive driving beam functionality.
All three beam-contributing elements are realized by direct-projection architecture to enable an economical and compact high resolution headlamp. As such this reference design represents an economical system solution for a full field-of-view high-resolution headlighting beam. An application demonstrator is physically built up and its Micro-LED is characterized with specific focus on the contrast performance of the Micro-LED device.
As important system design element for cross-platform scalability, the paper also discusses different concepts of digital interfaces between the Micro-LED device and vehicle architectures. Depending on where in the vehicle the image is generated and how much data will be transmitted different bus systems are supported by the Micro-LED.
To conclude, an outlook is given on future Micro-LED light source device technology development.
